UPDATE: Update 2 on SGS2 (Galnet ICS MIUI Rom)
Hello.
Following a lot of “debate” on XDA forums and the slow disappearance of the “Android OS” bug, I’ve been messing around with a bit of SGS2 kernel stuff and roms. Don’t get this wrong – I have NOT been creating anything new but rather experimenting with “Beta” and “Alpha” roms. I’ve moved from VillianRom to Cognition to MIUI. So to put into context, from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 to 2.3.5. From KE7 to KG2 to 2.6.35.7.
So what’s the result and why the move, you ask? A few reasons………….
1) Bugs. Damn bugs. (For me) VillianRom was the buggiest of all – random reboots, heats up, battery drained like nothing you ever seen before. I did update, I did disable stuff, I did ask forum guys for possible help. No can do there…
2) Custom Kernels. Roms like Cognition started to include Custom compiled kernels as their base kernel. I support this fully, but once the kernel has matured and is bug-less. CF-Root kernels are not modified as much resulting in a “feature-less” kernel. For example, the ability to underclock the CPU with greater accuracy. Don’t talk about overclocking cuz no-one ever needs overclocking with these phones.
3) We get to MIUI. Up to now it has been solid. I’ve been running it for a whole day and have been loving it. It runs the “pure” linux kernel as well as being 2.3.5. The UI is brilliantly thought-through (which I just simple don’t understand why guys at Google couldn’t think of better UI). Here are a couple of screenshots of the MIUI rom running on my SGS2.
So if I were you, I would give the MIUI rom a try – whether you are a HTC Desire user or Samsung Galaxy S2 user. You won’t be disappointed.
Enjoy,
Mo.

I had a nice 1.8 something (The one that said Android 4.00 in the settings).. I updated the newest version, and it didn’t like the modem it installed.. I fired up Odin and shot my old modem in.. still nothing.. Then i went online tried using the CM7/MIUI modems.. nadda.. didn’t try them with odin but CWM wouldn’t apply without errors..
Rebooting system now and crossing my fingers.
Hello.
Something must have gone wrong when you were upgrading. Make sure that you have the most up to date CWM. Also try XXKI3 modem as it has proven to be the most stable out there.
Good luck.
MIUI runs super smooth on my sgs2. No bugs or weird things happening. Slick and clean and no Carrier IQ
.. firmware and other Roms like sensation has traces of it. I’ll miss a few things using this rom though. 1. It’s not in Danish :S 2. The game hub from Samsung firmware and the Samsung app’s app. BTW . I run Go launcher EX on it as I did with the firmware aswell. So my phone homescreen looks as it did with firmware. But MIUI rom is staying on my phone because of the super performance (cyanogen has the same speed and supports Danish , but has some annoying bugs, that are hard to live with.)
Miui is by far the most beautiful ROM I have used on my SGS2. Smooth like anything. It has CIFS support, which is a big +1, It even supports my wii controller via the free app. Only thing this ROM does not have is TV out! On the SGS2, my dream is to one day play old school emulators on the big screen using my wii controller! THat’s one reason I returned back to litening ROM. Now Litening ROM doesn’t supprt my wii controller, so my dream stays a dream. However I have the TV out function, which is good as I travel with my Phone a lot! So, till MIUI gets TV out, I am going to stick with Litening. Any ideas why there is no TV out (MHL) support in this ROM?
Man what miui theme is that? it’s fucking great and i didn’t find anything similar xD
Haha, thanks!
That’s the default dark theme. If you wanna give a dark theme a try, I would suggest you give NeonBT a try along with Seamless Dark for the lockscreen.
Good luck,
Mo.
I agree, MIUI is brilliantly made, however on SGS2 it has some drawbacks – the full performance of the phone is not used (e.g. with some nice 3d games) and the camera quality is not good at all.
Yep I completely agree. However, you have to trade somethings. For example, camera picture quality for a more usable UI? .. YES PLEASE!
MIUI !!!! This is the best ROM i have try on SGS2. This ROM is beautiful, fast, people who developped this is brilliant. I ll try to put post on XDA forum unfortunately without success. (Sorry about my bad english) I m from Bosnia and Herzegovina. GO AHEAD I look forward to the next version of this beautiful, most advanced available ROM today!!!!!!!!
There probably not going to be newer ‘stable’ versions for a while as the main MIUI guys are going into ‘dev-mode’ and not ‘stable-mod’. So we need to wait for sometime.
Yepp
, I’m on your side! It´s just the thing that MIUI is still in beta mode, you can´t change Kernel or modem without something stop working.it’s a shame that so few developers working on MIUI for SGS2.
MIUI is the best one
For now I also run MIUI 1.8.12 on my phone and for my needs its working perfect except one thing that work much better on Roms like SensatioN_ROM_by_CRYSIS_i9100_1.4_wipe ….BATTERY last much longer with ROM that is base on CWMJeffrey-SpeedFrey2.2.0uVx3-Release kernel and another + you can Undervolted that kernel and you get even better battery time !
Peace out !!
